170 Fake Universities in Pakistan

It has been reported about 19 months before that there are various fake universities, which are providing education in Pakistan. It is reported that the total number of fake universities is 184, which are providing education to the students and they have proper approval of Higher Education Commission. After that the officials of HEC said that they are trying to curb this trend to provide education without their approval. The voices are also raised in the parliamentary panel to show the concern on this matter.

Now 19 months have been passed and no significant improvement has been made by the HEC and other concerned department in terms of elimination of the fake and illegal universities. HEC claimed that they are bringing the regulations in the education sector and the number of the fake universities will be decreased drastically.

It is also reported that the governing body should work well to curb this tendency of establishment of the fake universities and they will initiate the punitive measures against such fake universities and they will adopt the effective mechanism to ensure this practice will be discontinued.

Some universities have affiliations with public or private sector universities but lack the mandatory NOC from the HEC, which is illegal.

It is growing concern that thousands of the students protest against the fake universities and also the HEC because the universities offer the degrees to the students, which are unrecognized and they make the students and their parents fool in order to get huge amounts from them on the name of tuition fees.

The universities hide the fact that they are still looking for the clearance from HEC and they can also show the forge approval of PEC. But HEC and other concerned government departments do not take action against such universities and they do not pay heed to the protests of the students.
The present situation tells that there are still 168 fake, illegal and unrecognized universities, which are still functioning and they are providing education to the students. this situation shows that HEC is not interested in solving this issue.

Most of the fake institutes include words like “International”, “American”, “London”, “Western” etc. in their names to mislead the public but they have no relation to any international institute
It is reported earlier that some of the universities have shown the affiliation with public or private sector universities and they do not get the proper NOC from HEC. These universities are required to get the NOC before starting the educational process.

Most of the university mentioned the names of ‘Western, International, London, UK, US or any other places and they also claim that they have the affiliation with the international institutes and the students spend their amount just for provision of low quality education and the unrecognized degree.
Number of unrecognized universities in 2018 was just 24, and has now grown to 168, showing that HEC has made no effort to stop this menace and that education is the least of concerns for this government.

The fake universities are getting huge amount for providing sub standard education and the HEC, government departments and parliamentary committee is aware of the situation and they ignore the whole matter completely. These departments do not take interest in taking action against these departments. Although they earn billion rupees each year but their education level is very low.

The life and career of the thousands of the students are at great risk as these fake universities are uncontrolled and their degrees are also fake. If no step is taken against these universities, then it will be disastrous for the future of the youth of this country and how Pakistan manage the international investment of money or development of the projects with the unqualified workforce.
